In honour of Gary Corbett – my LOVE

For those of you who read our blogs but do not follow us on Facebook it is with regret to tell you that Gary passed away suddenly on the 31st of January 2021. We were out riding our e-Bikes in the beautiful part of the Scenic Rim in Australia whilst on a camping weekend celebrating a friend’s birthday.

He did not have a care in the world this day and so unaware that he was unwell as we were riding except after a takeaway lunch, he suffered shocking indigestion pains which were in fact chest pains from his heart.  He suffered a massive heart attack and was unable to be revived.  He died with the person he Loved, doing what he Loved, in a place he Loved and was 10 days away from his 66th birthday so his life was too short!  Gary lived a very healthy lifestyle with lots of exercise, healthy food and an occasional Corona beer.  It just goes to show that you must make the most of every day and live for the moment. And he did this every day!

I am still in shock, but I love our home we have together in the country and still love to ride my e-bike around our gorgeous countryside with the many undulating hills.   I am a firm believer that he is still around me and watching over me and would be upset with me if I didn’t carry on our legacy.  That is to keep riding and enjoy life.  He said, “Cycling is the Elixir of Life!”

My endless love for you Gary! Love Rachel

So I am now looking to the future and hoping I can share the love of e-bike riding with others and to live life to the fullest as we always did together.  I said at his Celebration of Life, he would not (Rest in Peace). He would be in peace but with no rest!  He would ride the heavens on his e-bike whilst  I rode alongside him on Earth until I meet up with him again at the end of the rainbow.   I can see him now with his smiling face on his e-bike speeding down the hills saying “How good is this!”

  1. We (a French couple) met you at Donauwörth July 25th 2016.
We were also cycling and camping.
We were just watching our pictures at random and just went on your website.
We are deeply saddened to read about Gary’s brutal death.
We remember you two very well ; you noticed our helinox chairs and we began to talk about your e-biking (Haibike) travel throughout Europe.
    We still travel with our bikes and even went to Patagonia 3 months ;
In August we planned a Switzerland cycling camping trip.
We wish you many more travels with your bike as Gary would have like you to do.

  2. Thank you for your message. I am hoping in the future I will be able to travel again in Europe and relive so many of our wonderful moments cycle touring.

  3. Time flies, and it has been a full eight years since 2018. This is Joel from the study tour team in China. I have tried to reach out to you many times over the years but was unable to due to internet restrictions in China.

Finally, I recently managed to visit your website using Chrome and was heartbroken to learn about Gary’s passing. My deepest condolences to you and your family.

Gary was such an upright and positive person. I still cherish the memories of the time we spent in Kalbar, which remains one of my fondest memories before entering high school. I am truly grateful for the care both you and Gary showed me during those days.

Inspired by you both, I began leaning toward international education since high school. I took international courses, participated in global competitions, and just last November, I received offers from prestigious universities such as the University of Melbourne and the University of Sydney! This has always been a dream of mine.

I wonder if you still live in Kalbar. If so, I hope we can meet again in the future and catch up properly.(I’ll put my email address below,I’ve been looking forward to your reply)

    Warm regards,
    Joel
